Ingredients
-
2 cups flour
-
1 tablespoon baking powder
-
Pinch of vanilla powder
-
Pinch of salt
-
1 tablespoon cardamom powder
-
1/2 tablespoon cinnamon powder
-
4 eggs
-
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
-
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
-
A few drops of white vinegar (optional)
-
1 ¾ cup white sugar
-
3/4 cup corn or vegetable oil
-
1/2 cup milk
-
Toasted sesame for garnish (optional)
Directions
Prepare the Bundt cake dish by brushing it with butter and dusting it with flour and sesame seeds if using, then, set it aside.
In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, vanilla powder, cardamom, cinnamon, and salt, then set aside.
In a deep bowl, using a hand mixer or in a stand mixer, whisk eggs and sugar, vanilla essence, and vinegar together well using an electric hand mixer or stand mixer for about 3-5 minutes until it’s light and airy, then add the milk and oil and continue to mix until well incorporated.
Gradually add the flour mixture while continuously mixing until all the flour mixture is mixed in.
Transfer the batter to the prepared Bundt cake dish, garnish with more sesame seeds, then place in a preheated oven at 180° Celsius (365° Fahrenheit) for 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Remove from oven, allow to cool, then flip onto a serving dish, and serve.
Recipe Note
For an extra touch to the Kuwaiti Spiced Bundt Cake (Girs Egaili), consider adding a saffron syrup drizzle. This will enhance the cake’s flavor and give it a beautiful finish.
Saffron Syrup Drizzle:
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- A pinch of saffron threads
- 1 teaspoon rosewater (optional)
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
Instructions:
- In a small saucepan, combine sugar, water, and saffron.
- Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
- Let it simmer gently for 5-7 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Add rosewater and lemon juice for a fragrant and tangy touch.
- Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- Drizzle the saffron syrup over the cake while still warm, allowing it to soak in and enhance the flavor and moisture of the cake.
